Castor Oil Detox Therapies

Castor oil has been used for various internal and external detox purposes since ancient Egypt. When used externally, a castor oil pack increases circulation in and around that specific area of the body. The oil absorbs through the skin to underlying tissue and promotes detoxification and healing of those tissues and organs.

  • To detox the colon, castor oil has been taken orally to induce elimination, with the intention of drawing out toxins through the colon, thus detoxing the body. This colon detox practice should be used with great caution, however, as the oil can have too strong a purgative effect, causing uncomfortable cramping or uncontrollable diarrhea.

  • To detox the lymphatic system, a castor oil pack can be placed externally on specific lymph nodes (especially if swollen) or on all of the major lymph node regions of the body (the neck, underarms and groin area).

  • To detox the liver, lie on your back and place the castor oil pack on your liver, located just below the right rib cage bones.

  • To detox the kidneys, lie on your stomach and place the castor oil pack on your lower back, where the kidneys are located.

Castor Oil: Therapeutic Uses

Castor oil packs are helpful in these ways:

  • detox the liver
  • detox the colon
  • detox the kidneys
  • detox the gall bladder
  • cleanse the lymphatic system
  • increase lymphatic circulation
  • improve digestion
  • relieve headaches and migraines
  • relieve pain

Castor Oil Pack Ingredients

  • A piece of cotton flannel cloth

  • Castor oil

  • Plastic wrap cut 1-2" larger than the flannel (can be cut from a plastic bag)

  • Hot water bottle

  • Protective sheets and clothes (castor oil will stain your bedding and clothing).

Castor Oil Pack Instructions

  1. Pour a small amount of castor oil in a microwave safe dish and warm at low heat for 30 seconds

  2. Place the flannel in the container. Soak it in castor oil so that it is saturated, but not dripping.

  3. Place the flannel over the affected body part.

  4. Cover the flannel with plastic and then an old towel.

  5. Place the hot water bottle over the towel pack. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes and up to 2 hours. Rest while the pack is in place. Keep it warm.

  6. After removing the pack, cleanse the area with a dilute solution of water (500ml) and baking soda (2 tsp) to remove any acidity from the skin.

  7. Discard the flannel and plastic, as well as any stained clothes or sheets.
